Gettysburg National Cemetery

The cemetary at Gettysburg was the first cemetary to be appointed as "national."

While the Gettysburg battles were finished on July 3, not all of the Union dead had been moved and properly buried by November. Most of the Confederate dead had to wait NINE years before they were relocated.

Lincoln wasn't even the main speaker at the November dedication.
